Vicki's Kitchen

My maternal grandmother is an incredible cook. She was also a nurse, but food is her passion. One year, shortly before her 80th birthday, her kitchen flooded and all her recipes (which were on paper cards) were nearly destroyed. The catastrophe gave me pause to consider how without intentional preservation, the heritage and memories we have from our elders is fleeting. My sisters and I decided to make a cookbook of all her recipes that the family could continue ordering copies of as long as they needed them. I cook from this book often!

This project is more traditional than my usual style, but it was about recognizing her tastes and Polish kitchen! I creative directed this project, shot most of the food photography, designed and laid out the book. I collaborated with my sister Monika Wensel on the illustrations. We all cooked, tested and copy edited many recipes!
